Original "Colt" 8 round mags/10mm

Just picked up 7, new in plastic, original Colt, 8-round, blued 10mm mags. Didn't have the option to "shop", inquire online about reliability, or price check. Are these magazines reliable? Are they good? What are they worth?
Thanks for any input. I have a 10mm Delta Elite, and figured I would use the extra mags somewhere along the line. I THINK I got a bargain at $12.00 each......... but thought I would take a crapshoot. How did I do?
Thanks again, Jeff

Good deal! Especially if they were in factory bags. Want to sell a few of them?

Stealther,
Right now I will probably keep them and try one of them out. If it feeds reliably, I will probably keep all of them. If they don't feed reliably, I will want to get rid of some of them, but wouldn't want to sell bad goods to anyone without their knowing that I feel the goods are inferior (at least that don't work for ME). If they don't work out for me, I will let you know and you can decide. However, as I said, the only reason I would want to get rid of them is if they DON'T RUN RELIABLY in MY gun.

That's an awesome deal, I've seen them for as high as $45 each. :roll:

My only suggestion is that because the mags are relatively old (Colt quit making 10mm guns in quantity around 1996), the springs can be kind of spongy. Replace 'em with some Wolff XP mag springs and you will have the most reliable 10mm magazines made.

Sean,
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion. I will take your advice on the new springs. Do you think the Wolff's are better than the ISMI springs? I have been using the ISMI springs for some while and have found them to be the best I ever used. I have been using their mag springs and their recoil springs, and they just keep on being strong!! Thanks, always happy when I am told I got a bargain!

I've heard good stuff about ISMI, but I've never gotten around to trying them.

"I THINK I got a bargain at $12.00 each ..."

No, in my area that's called a "STEAL."

The one's I've seen, running from "excellent condition" to beat-up, are $25-$30 minimum, because they're considered official "factory" mags.

FWIW, in mine, I replaced the factory spring with XP Wolff's, as Sean mentioned, for reliability.

Some guys have all the luck.

Since nobody asked, I thought I would; where did you buy these magazines and can I buy some as well?

I'm willing to pay $20. no problemo! Half a dozen to me, should bring your purchase down to about $5./mag.

An older gentleman who traded (with an FFL) out of his basement, decided some years ago to give up his FFL (as many did when the Clinton Adminsitration made it so costly for small operators), and sold all of his firearms then. He called me and told me he had some "little odds and ends" that he wanted to get rid of, and would I be interested in coming over and looking. OF COURSE I WAS. Most of it was junk, but in a cigar box which was inside of a shoebox, he came upon the mags, and said it was an "off" caliber, but if I had any use for them, he would sell them to me at his cost (from Lord knows when!). I took him up on it, and took them all. I didn't set the price, he did.
Am I correct in assuming that these were originally manufactured by Meggar? That is who I thought made all the Colt "factory" magazines, but I hasten to add that I do not KNOW. Thanks for all the feedback.

By the way, it was just this last Tuesday that he called and I stopped by his house.

Is there a "C" or a "M" in the corner of the baseplate?

C=Colt
M=Mecgar

Stealther,
They are each "shrink-wrapped" on a grey cardboard which has the "Colt" logo on it (in Colt blue), and on the front of the cardboard is
"Colt 10mm Magazine 8-round blue Part # 920888 Fits Colt Delta Elite, Delta Gold Cup, & Double Eagle Models"
On the back of the cardboard it says "Colt Custom Accessories" and below the "scanner barcode and number', it says in small print, "Part No. 94593". I don't know why there are different part numbers on the front and on the back of the card, but it does have the "Colt" registered trademark on the front and back of the card, and says, Hartford, CT 06101 under it.
On the baseplate, it says "Colt-10mm AUTO" . I can find no "C" or "M" on the baseplate. Is this info any help in determining what I have?
Thanks,
Jeff

Those sound like the generic Colt 8-round 10mm magazines. I'm pretty sure Metalform made them, actually, since they sell what amounts to an exact copy of the design now, and the Mec-Gar 10mm magazine is completely different in design. The mags made for the Delta Elite have the Delta logo engraved on them instead of the Colt pony that is on Colt's generic 10mm mags, but are otherwise identical in every way.

Well Sean, if they are "very good" then I am "very happy" . Thank you for your time and patience. I have been a 1911 fan and shooter for almost 40 years in .38 Super and .45, but while having owned a Delta Elite for many years, have had very limited experience with it.
Thank all of you for the information.
Jeff

I have 4 colt 10mm mags, one came with delta, 3 bought from norwegian retailer. My guess is they are made by metalform, there is definitly 'metalform-feel' about them, follower, removable base et all.
