| Best 10mm hunting load?
Looking for suggestions for the best hunting loads through a 5" Delta Elite for wild pig, coyote, deep, ect. Ideally, I'd love to find just one that would be effective for all game. Suggestions?

I'd look at one of the 200gr XTP loads from Texas Ammunition or Double-Tap. Both are about 1,250 ft/sec.

I like the Doubletap Golden Sabre loads on whitetail, and the 155gr Gold Dot on coyote! Got a coyote on my way home this evening-it just shut him down, took two more steps and collapsed. |

I've always handloaded Sierra's 190 JFP, usually over Blue Dot.

Other 10mm options from DT that might work for a hunting load include a 200gn FMJ-FP @ 1270fps or a 220gn Poly FP @ 1125fps.

I use the 200 grain Black Talon or the 180 grain PMC Eldarado to take several hogs and a couple of deer year. They work great.

Does any one have any first hand knowledge of the hornady xtp 200gr versus the 180gr for hunting deer or whatever else? Is the the 180gr going to have any advantages for better range?

I am partial to a 180gr XTP over 13.4 grs of AA#9 seated at 1.255" OAL. I use Federal brass and Federal LP primers. Not pushing it overboard, but still a bit spicy. I have no experience with the 200gr XTP, but I have a good friend that swears by them, and I've seen him shoot his loads in various pistols... very accurate. He uses AA#9 as well, but I do not know the charge. Of course, these loads only help if you roll your own. I'm not trying to imply anything by saying this, but just remember, shot placement and reasonable range are critical in hunting with the 10mm for anything deer-sized. I try to keep it within 50-60 yds, give or take a few. Now, for hunting game, let's say, in the 5'6" - 6'6" 150 - 300lb range, I like the 135gr Nosler over 17gr AA#9. Very effective, I would have to believe. Just plain smokin' from the muzzle. JUST KIDDING! (about the hunting, not the load) Good luck, and happy hunting! ~Jim |

Thanks for the input Jim I'm going to start out with the 200gr xtp, I have heard many good things. P.S. I just picked up a used kimber 10 target that is in excellent shape for $589. What do you think of that? I thought it was a great deal.
