10mm/40S&W slide for 1911
I'm building a new 1911 in 10mm. Finding it hard to find a 10mm slide. I can find a 40S&W slide in brownells but not a 10mm. So, my question is will a 10mm work with a 40 slide? My lower is a safari arms stainless with a 40 ejector. I was initially considering making a 40 out of it but decided I like the 10mm better. Should I go for a ramped or non ramped barrel? I can always have the frame machined.

As far as I know the only difference between a 40 S&W slide and a 10mm slide is the caliber designation roll mark on the side. I think Caspian is still making slides in 40/10mm. Sometimes you will find a Colt Delta Elite slide on eBay. I frequently see Auto Ordnance 10mm slides on eBay, but I would not use a cast slide on a 10mm!

I picked up a stainless slide supposed to be sti that is 10mm/40/357 Sig at a dallas gun show today. I suspect that it is a cast slide because of the lack of machining marks on it but it looks really good. It will be tight fit on the frame I have. I can only get about 1/4" to fit on the end of rails. Once it is lapped to the frame, it should be pretty good. Now I have to figure out what kind of barrel to get. I'd like to shoot both 40 and 10mm from it. I think I should be able to get by with a non ramped barrel for both. I got some good buys at the show. A smith and alexander mag guide (blued) for $25 and a couple of pairs of grips for $20. I may end up getting the whole pistol moly coated brown instead of going for a bright stainless.
