Picked one of these up yesterday in excellent shape for 499 bucks. Two questions, well 3 questions really:
1. It has a dual recoil spring in it, if I want to change it out what weight should I put in there? I am thinking I read somewhere that the weights were 22 and 24 lbs, but I can't remember and don't want to be guessing. This is for use with defensive ammo.
2. Anyone know where I can buy some mags for this bad boy? It only came with one factory delta marked magazine, even has the little triangle and circle thingy on the floor plate; but I am going to need more. Suggestions?
3. Trigger is a standard crappy factory one that is not smooth and is quite heavy. If I buy one of Danes pre fitted ignition systems and drop it in will that improve the trigger pull or do I need to send it somewhere and have it worked?

Thanks, Jake

PS- All stock right now and that is fine by me I think. I did add a set of ajax rosewood grips but I kept the facotry rubber ones with the cool little emblem on them. I am thinking of inletting the rosewood panels and putting the emblems in there, I saw that on a picture of a delta on this board and I liked the look pretty much. Again though, I think I am just going to leave it stock probably, once I start changing stuff it is going to get expensive pretty quick. Heinies, the Wave, beavertail, new trigger and ignition system.... I better write this all up for Santa...

Jake:
Welcome to the "dark side"! Way good price, BTW. Pitch the stock recoil system, and go with either a stock GI system or FLGR, and try an 18# spring with a shok-buff. For mags, try either CMC or Metalform. Stock Colt DE mags still can be found new in the wrapper for the low $30's. And yes, Dane's f.c.g. parts will work. See his recent posts on this for more info. Congrats., and have fun!

I run a Wolff 20lb spring and CP shock buffer on a steel FLGR and mine works like a champ. I used to use a 24lb spring but I think going a little lighter makes sense. I use Chip McCormick 9-round magazines in mine and have had no problems.

$499 is a heck of a good deal for a Delta Elite, by the way. And you DEFINITELY want to put those Delta medallions on a nice set of wood grips.

Hey Castle Bravo,
The 1911 Forum's down, so I thought I 'd see what's happening on PS.com. I agree that the 24lb. Wolff recoil spring set up may be a little too stout. It does work fine with light or heavy loads, however the slide's return into battery seems to dip the gun down. Have you ever tried the Wolff 20lb. variable spring? With the variable rate 20, wouldn't this come closer to the original two spring variable recoil set up on the stock DE? Thanks.
Regards,
Sam
