9x23 carry build: Commander or Government Length?
I've researched topics on this forum for a year or more, but this is my first post.
I have one 2011 9x23 pistol, 5", built by Benny Hill as a Limited gun; I am the second owner. I use this pistol for practice and carry. I enjoy the pistol immensely, and have eyed SVI pistols for a long time. I'm thinking of having SVI (or another quality 2011 builder) build a 9x23 for daily carry. Thus, I could use some advice.
The research I've done seems to indicate that I'll lose about 50-75 fps velocity out of the commander-length barrel. Does that sound about right? Seems like I could live with that small (3-5%) decrease in velocity, but if it's actually higher than that, I might want to rethink. Also, if there are other issues with the 9x23 in a shorter pistol that forum members are aware of, I would love to hear it.
Perhaps I'm crazy for considering building building a second gun in 9x23, but I like shooting the cartridge and the ballistics are excellent. I also can effectively conceal a pistol with double the capacity of my 45s. I've not yet started reloading for it, but I have accumulated a stash of brass for it, and believe I can run for many years with what I have on hand.
