colt mark iv barrel bushing

Since the original Colt Series 70 Mark IV barrel is slightly belled at the end to accomodate the collet type bushing, is there a problen with a replacement solid bushing, so far as proper fit? Mine still has the collet barrel, and I would like to replace it with a NM bushing.

Solid bushing is not a problem with the Series 70 barrel. The bushing should be set up so that it is snug and a little difficult to turn by hand in the slide and the inside diameter of the bushing should be 0.001" larger than the outside of the barrel near the muzzle. This should provide reliable operation while maintaining accuracy.

Having the diameter of the barrel slightly larger at the muzzle than the rest of the barrel is not a problem with a solid bushing.

As the others have already indicated, the belled end of a Series 70 barrel actually makes it somewhat easier to fit a NM bushing, since it provides better clearance during barrel unlocking. As always however, still check for any barrel "springing" once the bushing has been installed.
