Colt made a revolver called the Commando and they made a shortened 1911 called the Commander, but there is no Colt 1911 Commando. If you are talking about the Commander, the value would depend on whether it is a Series 80, XSE, or 1991. Prices could range anywhere from $400 up to about $800.

I have seen the pistol, it is a limited run Colt Commando, an officers slide and barrel on a commander frame.

This pistol has Colt on the slide and on the frame. I believe it is called a Combat Commando. It is an Officers slide and barrel on a Commander frame. Thanks.

I believe it was called the Commanding Officers. The model with night sights was called the Night Officers.

Well, I don't know anything about anyone's resemblance to equine excretory systems but a couple moments on Google found this:http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/history/C ... lution.htm A bit of reading will mention the "Combat Commander". Colt Commando was a revolver, and one of the AR15/M16 variants is also known as the Commando. Hope this helps |

What the original poster was talking about is not a Combat Commander. A Combat Commander is just a regular Commander (4.25" barrel, full grip, shorter dust cover) with a steel frame. The original poster is talking about a Colt with a Commander frame but an Officer (3.5") barrel. I assume many people call theirs "Ol' IronStubby." Why this setup is a good idea is far beyond me, but it's out there. |

I bought the pistol. It is a Colt Commando. On the left side of the slide is "Colt Commando Series", on the right side of the slide is is "Lightweight Commando Edition". The frame has the serial number LCCxxx and made by Colt........ The magazine has Colt and the pony on the bottom. I called Colt and they said only 250 were made.

It seems that whenever someone asks about a Colt Commando pistol everyone likes to point out it was a revolver not a pistol. As stated by others it is a pistol too. A Commander sized frame with an Officer sized slide and barrel to be exact. Most were limited runs of 500 or so. I have seen the NCO posted here as well as a "regular" Colt Commando and the Ultimate Commando whish is a high polish SS frame with a blued slide. Here are some pics of the Ultimate Commando: ![]() |
