| Colt Govenment Model MKIV Series 70
I have recently bought a Colt Govenment Model Series 70 from an estate. I've always wanted a .45 auto and was contemplating purchasing a brand new or a used (if available) Colt Gold Cup. But this one I picked up at a very very good price. I am not very familiar with these Colt pistols, but I do know that the price I picked it up at was very good. Unfortunatley, I will need to pick up a couple of clips for this one, cause it did not come with one. But I do not know which clip is the right one. I would also like to pick up new grips and change the sights to an adjustable one. Anyone that could give me some advice?!

Anyone want to tell me a little about what I've bought. Have I made a good, fair or poor purchase in buying this pistol?

You would need to provide the first four or five numbers of the serial number on the frame. That way someone could tell you the year of production. Some of the Series 70 guns from the 70's lacked let's say in quality control. However not all of them. I have seen some that were very nice. A Series 70 at a "great" price is always a good thing...if it was in acceptable condition. What do you consider a "very good" price for the gun. More details would help. Congrats on your purchase. I am sure you will enjoy it. |

Serial # 581**G70 Hope someone would be able to give me more information on this pistol for me. I paid 380 USD for this pistol. Is this too expensive? Appreciate any input anyone could give! Thanks! |

For $380 you did very well. In excellent condition these are bringing $700 or more on the used market. The Series 70 models were made from 1971 until 1983, and were simply Colt's flagship Government Model during those years. Nothing particularly special about them other than the fact that Colt went with a split-finger collet barrel bushing in place of the conventional solid bushing. So in other words, you have a basic Colt .45 from the 1970's. So grow your hair out, put on some bell-bottomed jeans, go to the range and have fun. 8)
