Colt Royal Colt Guard elecroless nickel finish

Did Colt do the electroless nickel Royal Coltguard finish in house, or send it out to a finishing house? If not, who did this finish for them? and finally, is this finish still available?

Back in those days, Colt did it in-house.
Due to the expense of maintaining the equipment and EPA regulations on the chemicals, Colt now has all plating done out side, BUT, Colt guarantees and closely monitors the quality of the work, and it counts as a Colt factory finish.
The also make sure any finish matches original Colt work as far as the appearance.

Here's a link to the finishes Colt currently offers. It's very possible/probable that the Colt Custom Shop will still provide Royal Coltguard:

Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC > Customer Services > Repair & Refinish > Firearm Refinishing

Dfariswheel, thank you for your reply. You sure do know your Colt revolvers. I'm new here at this site, but have read all of the old posts. You are about the most knowledgable Colt guy that I have read on any forum ever.
I have an 8" Colt Python that I would like to have fitted with a 6" barrel. I probably will never find a 6" barrel in E Nickel, so I thought if I am lucky enough to find a blued one I would have it refinished in E Nickel. I did make an inquiry with Colt and was told that they currently did not offer E Nickel,so I gave up the quest.

Probably a smart move.
With the exploding prices of original condition Pythons, re-barreling one would lower the value.
The usual advice is "sell the one you have and buy the one you want". That only worked in the days before the market prices of Pythons blew the roof off and Pythons cost so much only Bill Gates can afford them.

Now, you're better off to just keep what you have and be thankful you own a Python.
