I have just acquired a Colt Government Model pre-Series 70 pistol and would very much like to know what year it was manufactured.

The Serial No. is 2708XX-C.

Can any one tell me the year Colt manufactured it?

The chart in the Blue Book says 1955.
There are some SN lists that do not agree with theirs, but will not likely differ by more than a year.

Since making my post, I have found a list of the Colt Commercial manufacturing dates on M1911.org. There is also a list of the date of manufacture of the various makers of the Military pistols.

It agrees that my pistol was manufactured in 1955.

Gosh, no wonder it does not look "new in the box".

Collector Firearms of Houston is pricing NRA excellent pre-70 Series Colt Government models at $1,500 to $1,600. That's over 3 times what I paid. Guess I got a bargain.

Mine would probably grade good to, at most, very good.
