Python question

Hello All, Been awhile since I have posted here, but have a question about my Python. Mine was made in 78, and has only a few rounds fired through it. Bought it used, but shows no wear. In single action only, it seems like it want to de-cock while pulling the trigger. About one out of every 4 fires, the trigger kicks back and the hammer lowers as you let off the trigger. Double action is great, it only happens when firing single action. Anyone have any thoughts as to what may be the problem?

Re: Python question

With a used gun, God only knows what a previous owner may have done.
Its very common for people to try to "improve" the trigger by altering the internals. These old style Colt actions are probably the most complex revolvers ever made, and its very easy to botch things up.

Pythons are too valuable these days to risk home fixes or trusting to a local gunsmith, very few of who know anything about the very complicated Colt action.
Fair warning, if someone has altered the hammer or trigger, these usually are NOT repairable. They have to be replaced if the damage is too bad. Too many locals will just grind some more trying to "fix" it, then alter MORE parts to try to get it to work.

My advice: Cut to the chase and send it in to Colt for a full inspection and repair. NO ONE knows more about it than they do, and they have all the parts if anything needs replacing. Too many locals are tempted to try reworking parts to get it to work and wind up ruining more than they fix.
Trust Colt.

Re: Python question

I was afraid that you would say that. I am glad to here that Colt is still working on them.
