The DW model 12 was produced in 1970 and 71 and had the "pork chop" style barrel shroud and external barrel nut. These items are long out of production but can be found at gunshows and eBay from time to time. It is chambered in 357 Magnum, has adjustable rear sight, barrel lengths were available in 2 1/2, 4, and 6 inches. They were blued and came with walnut stocks. These were the predecessor guns to the more popular and still in production model 15.

Dan Wesson W-12

I have had mine for 30 years. The W-12 has a different style rear sight
and different diameter side plate screws than the M-15.

I am curious about Dan Wesson revolvers. Can you still get parts for the ones out of production?

I don't think you can get barrels or shrouds for the "pork chop" type shroud revolvers, but I think a lot of the internal parts are the same.

Re: Dan Wesson W-12

I have two model 12s, one with external nut and one with internal nut. The older, external nut version has a different rear sight that newer models.

My extra barrels fit the external nut revolver only.

Here's a writeup I saved off the old Dan Wesson web site:

What is the model number of my .357 magnum?
The Dan Wesson .357 Magnum CTG (stands for "cartridge") is a Small Frame Series revolver (has a removable sideplate on the left side of the frame beneath and behind the cylinder cavity).

15-2
If your revolver has an interchangeable barrel (barrel nut with 2 spanner slots visible from the muzzle end of the barrel), an interchangeable front sight blade (set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib), and a long, curved hammer spur, it is a model 15-2 if blued, 715-2 if stainless.

15
If it has a short, straight hammer spur it is a model 15 if blued, 715 if stainless.

14
If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an internal barrel nut, it is a model 14 if blued, 714 if stainless.

11
If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib), an "L" shaped barrel shroud and an external or internal barrel nut it is a model 11.

12
If it has an interchangeable front sight blade (set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) an "L" shaped barrel shroud and an external or internal barrel nut it is a model 12.

8
If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an internal barrel nut and will only fire .38 Special it is a model 8 if blued, 708 if stainless.

9
If it has an interchangeable front sight blade (set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an internal barrel nut and will only fire .38 Special it is a model 9 if blued, 709 if stainless.

FB15
If it has a fixed barrel (no barrel nut visible on the muzzle end of the barrel) it is a model FB15 if blued, FB715 if stainless.
