Probably possible, the chrome will probably need to be removed by a reverse plating process, kind of the opposite of the plating process. The gun will need to be repolished and blued. The downside is that depending upon what was done to this gun before plating and how thick the plating happens to be, you might end up with excessive tolerances. The gun may have been suffering from rust pitting before plating and the plating may have masked those pits. You just can't tell what lies beneath a plated surface.

Your revolver will definitely have to be striped of the chrome. As to restoring the polish before rebluing, it will be difficult at best but can be done. I suggest a very light glass bead reblue which will give it a satin look to the blue, otherwise you are looking at much $$ to polish properly. Chrome usually doesn't mask imperfections, it makes them show up more. I would not worry about tolerances on a revolver. If it is a S&W, I would suggest sending it back to them for a factory blue job. I have heard some people have had very good success with S&W reblues. They will be able to polish it properly and give it that good old S&W blue!
