Hard chrome on Taurus PT1911? Or hold off for a stainless?

Hello all! This is my first time posting on this forum, so I hope I've got all the rules down.

Anyway, I bought a PT1911 a few weeks ago, and it's my first introduction to the 1911. It has most certainly converted me. All other handguns just seem to pale in comparison. However, due to me being a college student, my budget was tight. After research, I felt it was either this Taurus, a SA Mil-spec, or a Rock Island. I went with Taurus, as I felt it had a few more bells and whistles, and would give me a good introduction to the 1911.

Thus far, its very reliable and I enjoy it. However, the blue from the factory is horrid. It's so incredibly thin that even after no holster wear (just regular range wear, etc etc) there is some fading.

I've researched, and now I am looking for some opinions. To you guys, do you think it'd be reasonable to have this firearm hard chromed? Or should I wait and reserve such an investment on a higher end 1911 down the line awhile? I mainly want to add durability to it, but I must admit that I'm a huge fan of the hard-chrome look (Matte or brushed, not polished.)

I'm just wary to hard-chrome, due to unknown long-term reliability of this 1911, as it hasn't been on the market too too long.

However, as it's my first 1911, it's very tempting to hard-chrome, add new grips (Mil-Tac G10's most likely), and add a drop-in magwell, such as an S&A, and other various small modifications.

Any views on this firearm and hard-chroming? It seems that I'd go with Tripp Research to do it, and their prices are reasonable.

It seems as if I'll either go ahead with the hard chrome, or I'll wait several months and sell it, and go with either the new Taurus 1911 in stainless, or go with something a "step up" such as a Springfield Loaded or Kimber Custom II.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. Any comments or opinions on these decisions would be fantastic!

Do not hold your breath or get without a gun while waiting on the stainless Taurus. It took them two years after the first glowing magazine article about a prototype to get the black guns out, their www "status" catalog listing for stainless is "T.B.A"

If you like it otherwise, get it plated.

Yea, I'm getting closer and closer to hard chrome by the day. However, I have heard from several shops that Taurus expects their SS versions out around June/July. Who knows if they'll hold to it though...
