next project:

1978 vintage Colt Trooper that was found in the remnants of a house fire, the heat never got to the gun (only enough to blister the finish on the grip panels)

The bore didn't look so good

Another Colt that I restored, this one a New Service in .38-40

The barrel had been shortened due to a bulged barrel, when then they were working on it they snapped off the ejector rod.

The gun was made in 1913, and if that isn't cool enough it has a lanyard loop!

Another refinishing job, this time a Dan Wesson revolver that we believe spent time as a sidearm for a security or LE officer. Pics and blog links below

Nice workmanship.

Who did the Trooper Mark III barrel replacement?
Very few gunsmiths have the correct frame wrench for the later Colt models.

I did it, I built the frame wrench myself

using some steel plate, a large bolt and pieces of pine that I cut out to fit the contours of the frame. I had to build two sets of blocks, one for the New Service and one for the Trooper.

So pine is stiff enough? Or just to use once or twice?
