| Another Glock Question
I haven't bought a gun for 30 years, at least, until a couple days ago I picked up a new Glock 23C. In the gun case was a sealed, signed, certified small brown envelope with two spent cases - fired in my pistol I am pretty sure. What are those for - am I supposed to turn them over to cops or something? Also. The cases were very light - steel or aluminum maybe - all I've dealt with is brass. Is brass obselete? Obviously I've been out pf pistoling for a while - like 20 years. |

For one thing, the cases are supposed to certify that the pistol was tested and found operational when it left the factory to be distributed. I've also heard, though, that they fire the round so that they have on record from the bullet that particular pistol's bore profile/markings in case someone (police) need to identify which pistol shot this bullet into this guy's chest. I don't know. What brand is the case? It's probably a nickel plated brass case, which is utilized often on premium ammo, esp. Federal. |

Mike F, Some states are requiring this casing enclosure by law. Don't ask why. Glock includes them with all their pistols. Other manufactuerers are including them only in pistols shipped to distributors in the required states. Nothing you need to do with them. It does, as stated previous, show that the pistol was test fired at the factory. When I was a Glock armourer for my former department back east in PA, most of the Glocks that we received had aluminum CCI Blazer casings included. This is a less expensive range/target ammunition; though many ranges prohibit it's use simply because the casing can not be reloaded and they don't want it getting mixed in with the brass. |

OK. Guess Texas will be the last State to require that sort of thing. My last purchase was a Smith 29-2 in 1973 or thereabouts and it came with six fully operational .44 Mag cartridges in it's wooden presentation box. The Glock comes with two cheapo rounds already shot out and unreloadable to boot! I shouldn't complain, times change.

The fired cases are there because somes states require ballistic chamber record files Such as NJ, Mass. etc. Manufacturers just include them in all guns shipped to distributers then down the line to retailers who are required to remove them when the gun is sold and forward them to the respective state agencies.
