| Wrong Ammo in Glock
A friend of mine recently loaded six rounds of .380 ammo into his 9mm Glock. This was done by mistake. The first round fired and the second round was chambered. The second round did not fire so he ejected it and chambered the third round. This one fired as did the following three. How much danger was my friend in? Could the chamber have been damaged? Has this ever happened to anyone else? |

| Re: Wrong Ammo in Glock
I have seen careless people inadvertently intersperse some 9mm ammo in Glock 23 .40 cal guns. I have seen the rounds feed, fire, and extract, with the only obvious problems being a a really LOUD report, a keyhole in the target, and the mouth of the ejected case being blown to a fray. I don't know if any permanent damage was done to the gun's chambers or not, but the guns kept running for years after that. (These were police duty guns.) I heard one "expert" say once that the brass would try to expand to the chamber ID upon detonation, so maybe it won't hurt the chamber as the brass is so much softer, but maybe it will. I just don't know. The round bouncing around inside the barrel can't be good for it, however. I would be more worried about the bore, myself, but that's just a guess without really thinking it all the way through. Maybe someone else on the board more skilled than I can answer? Tell your friend to be more cognizant of what they are doing. .380 ammo is more expensive, anyway! Regards - CO |
