| STI Grip Safety Heads Up
Hello, This is a huge picture, so I'll link it. Please let me know if it doesn't work. ![]() It looks like they may be made only for use with triggers with built in stops, but I can't confirm that. I've sent this picture off to STI to ask their opinion. What's going on is, after install, the trigger overtravels and allows the disconnector bar to engage the sear and would cause doubling and hammer follow. The problem is fixed on my pistol, but I had to round file a relief in the disconnector to do it. Shouldn't have had to do this, and wouldn't have, except that I plan to get a C&S kit when finances allow. Josh <>< |

Is there are reason that you picked the STI grip safety? Seems that the problem is with how it is made, not your gun. I have never had to relieve the sear or mess with the disconnector to get a grip safety to work. I don't see any reason to have that bulge on the top of the actuation lever. There are so many makers of that type of grip safety. I also have never used the C&S sear so you would have to tell me why they put a relief cut into the bottom of their sear. It must serve some purpose but I don't see it. If they are trying to lighten the sear, there is so little mass there that is would be pointless. But I also know that Bill woudl not make some modification on the sear without a purpose in mind. And I must claim ignorance as I have not been to the C&S site to see what information there is on the sear. I have never used one and use another brand almost exclusively unless the customer specs the sear and ignition parts. Jess |

Hello, I'm sorry I'm waaaaaay late on this. I don't get to this board often. The idea behind the STI grip safety was to allow it to be removed without removing the MSH. In doing so, they had to move back the built in overtravel stop, necessitating either a trigger with an overtravel adjustment, or the relief of the disconnector. Fusion's grip safety is like this as well. The reason I chose the STI was because I had good experiences with their other parts, and figured this would be the same. I was wrong. It really is a good safety, but I replaced it with a Brown. STI really needs to specify that an overtravel adjustable trigger needs to be used to keep the thing from going full auto due to a binding sear once the grip safety is installed. Josh <>< |

Well researched and good information. If I want a full auto 1911 all I need is an STI grip safety  Totally kidding. Why would I ever even want such a thing? I saw a demo of a 1911 with a 50 round drum on full auto and it was just stupid for recoil and barrel rise. Same thing as the Glocks. What the hell is the point? Jess |

Point is, if you use an STI or Fusion grip safety, make sure you have an overtravel stop on the trigger. I didn't realize this when I ordered the part. Imagine my surprise. Swapped in an Ed Brown the the proper nose - I don't trust triggers with overtravel screws. Josh <>< |
