Long slide and blank full profile comp question

I need to know how the full profil comp blank ataches and how it works so i can know if my idea for a project 1911 will work. If I take a long slide pistol and get a threaded barrel, does the blank just screw onto the barrel? If so, can I start my pistol by getting one only drill for rear sights, leaving the front sight position clean and attaching my front sight to the end of the 2" blank full profile comp? Will this effect accuracy much since the comp has to come on and off (assuming they thread on, or do they attach them some other way)? In effect this would give me an extra three inches of sight radius over a standard government model, a much longer profile, and of course extra weight. Can this work?
