| Spegel J frame grips
Anyone experienced with the checkered Spegel J frame boot grips? Are they too rough for pocket carry or to sharp that they'll dig into palms when shooting a Titanium 340PD (the light, hard kicking gun!)?

Never had a 340, but I've used them on everything else(J's)-they rule!!! Check with Don@the Action Works, he stocks them so you won't have to wait so long. |

| Checkered or smooth?
Which do you use? I'm particularly interested in the checkered ones and if they snag in pocket or dig into hand -- or do they help with recoil?

In case you didn't know, Spegel's grips were used to make the mold for Uncle Mike's boot grips. They're rubber, so I find them difficult to draw my J-frame out of my pocket with them but they are pretty comfortable to shoot with.

| Wood be better?
Hi Dave, Thanks for input. If your rubber grips were wood, would they hide in a front pocket and draw easier? Would you recommend them if made of wood? |

They would definitely draw easier but I don't know about the hiding part. When I worked patrol, I carried my backup (J-frame Bodyguard) in my left front pants pocket with my duty gun on my right side. I originally carried it in my left back pocket but I got tired of sitting on it and the butt constantly wore a hole in my pants. My thinking was that the most important use of my back up would be if someone was trying to take my duty weapon and I would be using my right hand to retain it so my back up needed to be available to my left hand. None of the rubber grips I tried worked because their tacky surface made it difficult to get my fingers around the grip and draw it from my pocket. For that reason I would suggest either wood or plastic grips. They don't make them any more but I put Safariland plastic grips on mine. They're shaped like mini Hogue grips that taper at the butt so they don't print very much in your pocket. They were NOT comfortable to shoot but they were better than the old, skinny wooden grips that S&W used to put on their J-frames. Those weren't good for much other than using them as a door-stop  The only way you're really going to know about the boot grips is to try them but if you're going to carry them in your pocket, I would get wood. They may not be as comfortable to shoot as the rubber ones but if you can't get your gun out when you need it, there isn't much point in carrying one in the first place. |
