I'm not sure what you really want there or how big a sacrifice in performance you're willing to make for concealment. Too many variables still undefined. There are lots of tiny pistols that are out there but I find that as the size goes down, overall control does as well. In addition, the physical size of the cartridge and number of shots available will also be limiting factors. You can by some really tiny deringers and if only one or two shots will meet your needs, that may be the way you want to go. Personally, I setteled on three guns for pocket carry, a Colt Detective Special in 38 Special, SiG 230 in 9mm Kurz and a Makarov in 9mm Mak. When used with a good holster that masks the outline they are well concealed, easy to get to, large enough so that I feel confident I'll be able to control them, use rounds that I consider adequate for close work and enough rounds for several shots. But then YMMV. |

My pocket gun for when I don't think I will need a gun is a s&w 637 with a bobbed hammer. The bobbed hammer won't snag for quick draws and still gives me option of single action carefully aimed shots. JS |

| A Colt Pocketlite Mustang or Pony 380
is a lot smaller and lighter than is a Makarov. The Kahr PM 9 9mm is also a bit smaller, considerably lighter, and twice as powerful as is the Makarov. Even the short barreled 9mm is not all that powerful, if you have to actually stop a man with chest hits.

I use a Baretta Tomcat .32. I sent it to Bill Laughridge at Cylinder and Slide. I had one of the originals with a blade front sight. They cut a dovetail and installed a tritium front sight and broadened the rear sight to make it functional. I load it with Mag Safe's and "always" carry an extra mag to make up for the small caliber. Bear in mind, this is for those situations where carrying a larger caliber is just not practical.

Unless you have pretty good pockets, like cargo pants, I don't think any gun is easily retrieved in the front pocket. I would say that a striker pistol would be the best choice because you don't have a hammer to snag. Kahr and the compact Springfield XD immediately come to mind. I also think the little Kel Tec would do nicely in a large front pocket. These guns offer the plenty powerful 9MM in a small package.

| That's not really true. The Mustang 380 is quite small
and light enough for swift use out of the front pants pocket. Shucks, Rick Miller even did an article about it, starring Roscoe. If you just have sense enough to make a thin plastic pocket holster, snagging is impossible. A swatch of Velcro will keep it in the pants or coat pocket, and you can "palm" the entire combo from coat to pants, and back, as you enter or leave cold weather. Furthermore, any seamstress can add larger pockets to any pair of pants.

You make a good point. I usually wear dress khakis or blue jeans. I do carry a PDA in my dress pants. If I can carry a PDA, I guess I could get a gun in there. I think blue jeans would be a little tricky.
