1911 22 caliber conversion kits

Does anybodt out there shoot with 1911 22 caliber conversion kits. I am looking at three brands and hoping to get some good input. The three in question are by, Wilson Combat, Kimber and Ciener. :-?

My understanding is that all three are made by Ciener. I've seen the Ciener and the Kimber kits, and they look/feel the same (except for brand markings).

I have to second the comment by "shoot".

Marvel is the best available, as far as I have seen.

220 conversion kits

The Marvel with fixed sights is $125.00 more than the wilson combat. Is it that much more accurate.I am buying to save money on training ammo and to teach my wife how to handle a semi auto 45 without the fear of the big bang and the recoil. DAC

To me personally, yes. To everyone, maybe not. I would say that the quality, finish, and reliability are better on the Marvel unit. However, the Wilson unit does work and is accurate.

That answer is just individual preference and perceived value. Is an HK USP worth the extra money over a Glock (very similiar comparison)?

I have the Kimber Platinum model and it is quite accurate for casual shooting. It is not that reliable and has frequent failures to feed. I think some of it is user error since any contact with the slide during recoil will cause a problem. I think I ride the slide sometimes. I like it OK, but wish I could figure something out to make it run a little better.

.22 conversion kits

Sounds like you are impressed with the Mervel conversion kit. Is there anyone else that has an opinion on this? I have narrowed it done to the Wilson Combat and the Marvel. If it helps, I will be fitting it to the NRM Colt 1991A1. I welcome and thank all who can shed some light.

Ciener Conversion

I bought a Ciener Commander Conversion for my Daly EMS in March. Am on a layoff and have been able to shoot to my hearts content these last four months. I have poured at least 4 and maybe 5 or more thousand rounds through it during this time. It works very well, no noticeable wear on the aluminum slide, just the anodizing wearing off. As accurate as when the .45 slide is in place, about "4 from a rest at 25 yards. Bought it through Brownells. They have a 1 year guarentee and also take plastic. Ciener does not. A quality unit in my opinion and worth the money I paid for it. Good enough for who its for. Me! Zack

I have not used the others conversion units besides the Colt and the Marvel. The floating chamber of the Colt requires too much maintenance.

The Marvel comes with a test target shot at 50 yards. Mine gave a 0.545" ten shot group from a Ransom rest when tested. This is far beyond my ability, but comforting to know it is capable to allow me to see my skill, and not wonder how much is the gun and how much is me.

Do what your budget allows, but the greater accuracy can add to a new shooters confidence as their skill increases.

Shoot
