Anyway...

I have to chuckle a little whenever somebody picks Bryce or Bill Jordan or Ed Cantrell apart on their methods and techniques. It reminds me of a story I read once about one of Rocky Marciano's handlers complaining about the way he punched.

"He throws that right hand all wrong. We gotta fix that."

His manager looked at him...snorted and replied:

"He puts guys to sleep with that right hand every time he lands it solid. What the hell do you wanna fix?"

Here is the story that I heard about how Bryce got his nickname. He was chasing a bad guy of some reputation. The chase led into a movie theater and gun play ensued. As the bad guy lay dying, his last words were "Never thought I would get killed by a jellybean like you". Jellybean being a 20s-30s slang for a sharp dresser.

A friend of the family was the night marshal in a small town in AR. He was the only law after dark and spend most of his time on the "wrong side of the tracks" if you get my drift, cause that where the action was. He was a quiet almost shy type who never discussed his job. During my youth in the course of hunting and fishing with him and my father, I never got one war story out of him. Despite reading about him killing some miscreant every couple of months for many years.

He taught sunday school and was an umpire for little league baseball. I can't remember anyone every questioning the fairness of his call.

Adding to the list of "Gunmen" I'd add Charles Askins, I hunted birds one year in Montana with a well known gun editor who told me some stories about Askins that would curl your toes. He was another who was fast on the draw but even faster on the trigger and another who you did not want to turn your back on. Some say that on his safari's in Africa animals were not the only game hunted.
