Ithaca 1911

I have owned a Ithaca model 1911 for over 45 years, Now retired I have just started to research some of my weapons. The serial number is 1,896,766 my research shows in 1944 Ithaca manufactured to 1,890,503 and did not produce anymore until 19445 starting with serial number 2,075,104If you can shed some light on this please do so.

I'm no expert on this so you might want to repost theis over on the 1911 forum for the experts to explain it:

http://forums.1911forum.com/

I think it has to do with how the government assigned blocks of numbers to the manufacturers.

Note the following:

1944 ITHACA GUN 1816642-1890503

Remington Rand 1890504-2075103

1945 ITHACA GUN 2075104-2134403

I'm not sure how it worked out that Ithaca was using number assigned to Remington and Ithaca used numbers assigned to Remington.

Check with the experts on the 1911 forum they can explain it.
