I saw a Desert Eagle in action today at the local shooting range. It was a monster of hand cannon I tell you. That .50 AE ammo is some LOUD stuff. It makes my Kimber Custom .45 sound like a BB gun in comparison. I just set my weapon down and watched this very lucky guy fire away with that monster. Has anyone else ever fired this hand held artillery piece? The largest pistol I have ever fire is a .480 Ruger revolver and that baby packs a punch too I might add. Also, I have a question. Is that .50 Desert Eagle the largest caliber you can get or is there sometheing else out there that tops that? If so, how do you hold onto something so huge and not break your hand firing the thing? Thanks.

its not that bad I would say, you have better control with a desert eagle than a sw 500. Don't forget alot of the recoil is sucked up by the auto-matics function. You loose alot of recoil that way. Alot of gas is needed to blow back the slide. On a revolver its harder kicking because the gas can only leak out around the cylinder headspace area.

I shot a few rounds through a buddy's .50 Desert Eagle... honestly, can't say I cared much for it.

Big, HEAVY pistol (if you can comfortably carry this gun, you might not really need a sidearm); loud, zesty recoil. Fun to shoot a round or two, I guess, but just for the sake of having 'been there - done that'. Past that, it'd be a cumbersome gun to actually carry.

My 'go to' gun is my EDC Glock 21; reasonable power in a piece I can wear daily and pop a couple hundred rounds through without beating me up. I just mention my preference to provide a frame of reference to go w/ my opinion.

But I guess the only way the OP will know if he'd like one is to shoot one.
