Desert Eagle damages bullets

My friend owns DE 44magnum, serial number 58xxx. Problem is that gashole makes holes to the jacket of the bullets. If it doesn´n make hole, it forms some kind of tail to bullet. The head of the gaspiston comes copper coloured. I think that those "tails" can´t be good for accuracy. I have heard that this is common problem. I have told to use thicker jacketed bullets. At least Nosler 200 grain HPs aren´t good. Could someone recommend bullets with stonger jacket or is there some other cure? Is this fixed in newer models? Another matter is that there is a little bulge in the barrel about 0.2" from the muzzle above gas cylinder. Practically, it can be seen only in the marks which bullet leaves to bore. Is that common? Despite DE is not perfect, we love big bang and soft powerful kick.
