This one is just for fun. Suppose you were limited to one pistol. This would have to function as your carry gun, house gun, etc. One additional limitation: whatever gun you pick would have to be box-stock. No aftermarket parts, no sight changes, no gunsmithing work to enhance (or just to gain!) reliability of function or accuracy. You would have to take it out of the box and use it as-is. Well, you can clean it first if you'd like. Oh, and I lied before, there is one last limitation - it has to be a production piece from a manufacturer - no "semi-production" pieces like Les Baer or Rock River Arms, etc.
So what would it be and why? What pistol would you be comfortable with right out of the box?

For me it would have to be either my Colt defender or my SA Loaded. Both have worked well right out of the box with no modifications what-so-ever. Maybe I got lucky (that would be a first)but my SA has never had any problems. Sites have not come loose, the FLGR has not backed out on its own nor any other malfunctions. I just shoot the fool out of it, clean and oil it about every 750 rds. One thing I have noticed about my Defender is it likes a very light lubricant (like rem-oil)if I use anything heavier it has a tendency to misbehave.

If I lived in a city area it would be a Hi Power It has proven a little more reliable than the Kimber I own. If I lived where the threat would be of the 4 leg variety it would be a Ruger S/A in 44 or 45 either would work with the right load
Thanks

Either my four-inch barreled Model 686 OR an HK USP, Sig or Beretta autoloader...while the 1911 IS a SUPERB fighting tool, I just don't trust 'em out-of-the-box...now, AFTER Dane or Wilson's or Vickers works 'em over...yeah, THAT'S the ticket!!!....mikey357

Kimber Custom Classic. Haven't "tricked" anything out, just cleaned really well, adjusted the extractor (after about 1K rounds), and replaced the stock mag with Wilson 8 round. I shoot it for fun, Friday night competitions, and it’s my carry gun.

If I could only have 1 gun Totally stock without being allowed any modifications or improvements it would be:
Glock 17
FN P35 9mm.

I like 1911 but only a customized one,

No question!
S&W Model 19 or 66 with a 4" barrel.
I shoot a box stock 4" 19 in IDPA. Minimum maintenance. Never lets me down.

I guess I'll answer my own question:
I'd probably opt for a Glock, either a 19 or 23. In fact, somebody else could choose between the two for me - I'd be equally happy with either one.

I did carry my 4013TSW in stock configuration for awhile. The only changes I've made from stock at this point are a lower-power main spring and a slightly heavier recoil spring. I bought the thing well before the "agreement", and I like it very much, but in light of what has happened since, I would not buy another Smith unless the new owners make things right.

If limited to one PISTOL, it would be the pre-Series 80 Combat Commander; if limited to one revolver, S&W M. 27 4".

Due to my life style, I live in an urban area, I would go with my S&W Model 37. It is an always gun to me and that is the criteria I would have to use. Regards, Richard

Pistol- pre 70 series commercial Colt 1911, .45.

BUT i would much rather have a revolver, no mags to loose, no worries about a smith etc.... and that would be a S&W mod 28.

Either a S&W PC5906 or a Beretta Elite 92. If those don't cut it because of their "performance shop" creation, then I'd select a Glock 17.

No stock pistols for me. I'd opt for my Ruger Bisly Vaqurao 5.5 in 45colt with medieum heavy handloads (about 1,100fps)255gr. It's on the money and will always fire when I pull the trigger. As well as always having the power to take on any situation.

Well, if this would be for EVERYTHING, including self defense and survival, then it would probably be a 4" barrel 44 magnum revolver. Can load 44 Specials for self defense and 44 mag for hunting and animal control or protection.

Not sure my S&W 627 PC qualifies so I'm going with the HK P7M13.

Hello all. First post, lurking for a few days now as a guest. Saw Dane's site a few months back, but just found this forum when I was searching for some unrelated info recently.

Hmmm. The post title says One gun; the text suggests it only has to be a house and carry gun, and says pistol.

So if it is a home and concealed carry gun, a SIG P-228. This may change when I can finally afford something nicer than the 1911s I have fired so far, but my 228 has been more reliable than any of the (few) 1911s that I have shot.

If Spackler really means -only firearm-, because of where I live it would have to be a S&W .44 Magnum Mountain Gun. Tough to conceal on a daily basis, but can be used for just about everything I would like to do. Just have to practice with the speedloaders and start handgun hunting.

Come to think of it though, there was a stock Kimber at Wade's that had a sweet trigger, and shot like a magic wand...

Definetly my Colt Defender. No problems yet, I've changed the safeties to ambi, changed the grips and the trigger, but these changes are not needed. I'd still be carrying it without those changes.
