Exclamation Looking for a 'smith I can trust

I am lucky to own a "full house" customized Austin Behlert series 70 Gold Cup and am in need of some upgrades: night sites, different hammer and bobtail, and an overall tune-up.

As this pistol is rather sacred to me, I want to be able to trust whomever works on it.

I'm looking for someone in the lower part of NY State, as I really don't want to trust sending off via mail.

If anyone out there has some names, I will owe them a"big time".

Many thanks,

Bruce

Sounds like to Me You are tryin' to spend several hundred dollars to lower the value of a heirloom.....were it me I'd find a pistol with the features You want and leave the Behlert as it is

I'll second that, guns from Behlert, Swenson, Chow and the other famed makers are worth more to collectors these days than as shooters.

Thanks, I always thought that, but never heard it from someone else. Here's some pix of the GoldCup

If I wanted to sell it, how can I find out the real value?

WOW Bruce, that's a beauty. Gotta agree that you should leave it be. I just finished readin' Jim Cirillo's book "Guns, Bullets and Gunfights". Jim was a championship level shooter, who was a member of the NYC PD's "Stakeout Squad" He was involved in 27 of that unit's 252 shootouts with armed criminals. He shot with , trained with, instructed and served with the best. HE WAS THE REAL DEAL ! ! He both carried and competed with revolvers built for him by Austin Behlert. They were N frame Smiths in .41 and .44 Mag, with Dan Wesson shrouded barrels, and Bomar ribs fitted. The book is replete with many pics of these hybrid weapons. IMHO, anyone who is the owner of a weapon crafted by Austin Behlert is indeed a fortunate person..........
