| How do you finish the inside of the holster(acrylic finish)?
I'm in the process of my first holster now. I've... 1) cut out the pattern 2) cut the stitching grooves 3) dyed it (black for my first attempt) 4) Put Tragacanth on the back and edges and rubbed it in 5) Sewed the holster together I have not boned it or finished it with Leather Sheen yet...my question is, how do you apply the acrylic finish (Fiebing's Leather Sheen) to the interior of the holster? Or do you even do this? |

I hope it is ok to add a question in a similar area. I have a rough cut holster that I use with a revolver in IDPA and it has too much retention - is there a finish or whatever that I can apply to make it slicker - I could go to Kydex, but it does not seem right with a revolver. Thanks, Jim |

JoseM - I have not finished the inside of any holsters I have made; I have used super sheen on the outside and it produces a great finish. You could try using a wool dauber and a very generous amount of finish on the inside of the holster. If you have a quart or more of the finish you could dip the holster in it. If I remember correctly, this is how Lou Alessi finishes his holsters. Solvability - As for a holster that is too tight, Mitch Rosen offers Leather Lightning; other makers offer similiar products. But the easiest way to loosen a holster is to put your pistol in a plastic bag, shove it in the holster and let it sit overnight. You can add a second bag to really stretch the holster. Or you can just practice drawing from the holster, which will loosen it a little and will have the added benefit of enhancing your draw. Dave |

One thing that sets me apart from most, if not all of the holster makers, is that the inside of my holsters are not dyed or finished. So to answer your question, "I don't do it."

What brand are you using? Is it Resolene? And, have you had any problems with peeling?

Angelus Satin Acrylic diluted about 20% with distilled water. No peeling or any other problems. |
