Recommendations for IWB Holster for S&W Airweight J-Fram

I'm in need of a good, comfortable IWB holster for my S&W Model 642 J-Frame 38 Special. I need it for those times when pocket carry just won't work! What do you Snub Nose carriers find works best for you? I am particularly interested in feedback regarding the various Alessi Talon hook models.

I would like to add on another request. I would appreciate hearing pocket holster suggestion for the same revolver.

Thanks,
Tim

Lou Alessi's Talon holsters for the snub revolvers work very well. If you carry in the appendix position, Lou offers his "APX". This is an IWB holster with an offset Talon clip and angled for this use.

Lou makes a couple different pocket holsters for J-frames. Tony Kanaley ( www.miltsparks.com ) also makes a nifty pocket holster.

Mike Benedict ( www.talontactical.com ) offers a neat and thin kydex pocket holster for the J-frames.

While not holster, strictly speaking, the Barami Hip-Grips offer a nice, minimalistic approach to carrying a J-frame.

I use an uncle mike's IWB clip holster (around 8 bucks on the web)...for a pocket holster I took a piece of quality leather and brought it to the shoemaker...he cut it to size outlined the gun and two minutes later i had a holster for five bucks in labor....by the way, I'm not cheap but after what i spent on my P7 rigs, I had to make up the difference somwhere....

Tim-

I've recently ordered a hard shell Talon and a pocket holster of Lou's manufacture. Haven't received either yet, but I'm certain that they'll both be excellent. If they arrive in the very near future, I'll be glad to send along my first hand impressions.

Lou does great work. I have several of his holster. Sort of wanted to have the holster and gun as a Christmas present. I would not be at all surprised if the rush is not already on at Alessi Leather.

When you get to looking for a pocket holster on the internet, you find a bunches of them. In fact, the variety really has me undecided. It would probably help if I had owned one previously. I've seen several that looked fine and really liked both pocket holster from Lou. The gun and holster are for my Dad. He wanted a gun to drop in his pocket. I want him to have the gun and a holster that conceals the gun well, protects it, and does so with minimum bulk in the pocket. I'm have to be careful on choice because he has already complained weigth and bulk in a carry package. He does not even like the Talon Plus with my Glock 27 in it. Of course he does like like an IWB holster period.

Does anyone have any idea what the wait time is for an Alessi holster order through R & F? Are any models kept in-stock or are they all custom orders? I guess I'll probably have to order both a Hard Shell Talon and a Pocket Pro for my S&W Model 642 J Frame.

Waiting time..

I called RF about a month ago.. they didn't have what I wanted in stock but said they could get it in 2-3 weeks..

I E-mailed Lou and got on direct from him in the 3rd week...

So either way, you get it pretty quick!!
