If you already have both, take the P226, the extra sight radius will help.
I am at present working one up, all I need is some sights so it shoots where it looks, it is now way off zero.
You will also need a strong side holster, magazine pouches, eye and ear protection, and, for IDPA, a concealment garment. Any jacket, vest, or oversize shirt that covers your gun and ammo will do. Practice drawing from concealment dryfire so you can do it safely.
For IDPA you will need at least three magazines, one to load the gun with, two spares on the belt. For IPSC you will need more, probably five.
They can be Klinton Klips, all you get is 10 rounds in either IDPA Stock Service Pistol or USPSA/IPSC Production.

For IDPA Dane is building me a Colt, get to have lunch with him tomorrow and pick it up!

For IPSC I Have a SVI that Grand Master Drew Dorsett used to win some Nationals (black one below) in open, Gene Shuey built the STI for Limited class and a Caspin for L10 (also ex-Dorsett pistol). The other chrome open pistol once to belonged to Dave Stanford, the ex-pres of IPSC/USPSA its one of the first open double stack SVI style pistols with the early Tripp/McCormick frame. Notice the logo on the grips, neat part of our shooting sports history. Pictures are below...enjoy!

So, when are we going to see you at the range with those fancy blasters, Ty?
This year, I've been shooting a Detonics Combat Master in CDP division, and the combination of a not-thoroughly de-bugged gun, and my own ham-handedness, has resulted in less than pleasing performances. With the new, no-disabled safeties rule in IDPA, my Combat Master is the only CDP-legal gun I own. Most of my problems have been mag-related, and I'm slowly - too slowly - sorting them out.
Last year, I shot a mostly-stock Colt .38 Super in ESP, and did pretty well with it. Very fun and easy to shoot.

Sometimes a CZ75 Standard IPSC .40S&W in USPSA limited division.

Every once in a while a pre-B CZ75 9mm for IDPA SSP.

But these are not MY preferred guns. Normally a P16 in limited, and now a custom 6" STI from Benny Hill. Also a one-off STI open gun.

Normally in ESP I'll use the same P16 as it fits in the box with flat basepads. Sometimes for something different I'll go with a P229 in .40, a HK P7M8, P226 9mm, P220 .45, Springfield 1911 9mm, or just go with a 1911 .45 (Bear/Wilson). IDPA, I shoot for fun, just can't seem to take it seriously. Seemed way too easy to make master.

Sig 226 is my favorite for IDPA - I also shoot ESP with a CZ 75 and sometimes a BHP. I recommend you get a fibre optic front sight. CDP - 1911
