Kahr CW45

Has anyone had any experience with this Kahr model (CW45) or for that matter with any other of the CW series?

I just held one in my hands and felt really good. Nice grip, weight and size. The slide was pretty tight and hard to pull, but the trigger felt really nice.

Just looking for any advise before jumping the rope.

Thanks!!

I have and daily carry a CW45. I had a P45 but traded it on this one because of the polygonal barrel, which according to internet lore is dangerous for shooting cast lead reloads.

The CW45 has snappy recoil but you can learn to control it. The chamber on mine was very tight. I reamed it out a tiny bit so that it would feed my reloads better. The trigger on my particular gun is as good as it gets on a striker fired gun. About comparable to a Glock with trigger work or an S&W M&P with an Apex sear installed.

The only thing I've done mine is ream out the chamber and slip on a grip adapter from Uncle Mike, or somebody.

Hi!

If I may ask how long it's been since you got your CW45 and any good holster that you like?

I couldn't refrain from it, so I got it today. Read all the manual, gave it a good cleaning and did some dry shooting with snap caps and everything seems to be in order. Tomorrow I'll go to the range, I have some 45ACP ammo from Federal, Winchester, Tulammo (steel casing) all these 230 gr FMJ and some Hornady (185gr JHP) and Winchester (PDX1 230 gr JHP.)

We'll see how everything goes!

Well, sorry but I couldn't go to the range and try my CW45 today. We had a family event to attend. I did go to a gun show though, and was able to get a new Kahr mag extended for 7 rds for about $36. Just about the same prize that I could get it through the internet, but w/o waiting for shipping.

Also saw some fine holsters, tuckable, that I may want to get next time the gun show comes to town again in early March. The place website is: customgunbelts.com just in case anyone cares.

I have had my CW45 for almost two years and carry it in a Galco "concealable".

Just picked up a CW-45 a couple weeks back myself. So far it's been flawless. One thing I noticed when handling a few of them pre-purchase was that the trigger pulls seem lighter and smoother than on the same guns a few years back. Could be my imagination.

One bit of advice about the Kahrs in general: Stick with the factory-branded magazines, the aftermarket ones are...not good, to be kind. It's great to save 50% but not when performance is thus shrunk by 100%.

I don't have a Kahr-specific holster for this gun, been using a leather IWB made for a Commander-size 1911. Seems to work okay. The magazine dimensions between 1911s and Kahr .45's are nearly identical with regards to mag pouch selection.

Thanks for the advice!

I will check the Galco concealable holsters. I did get an extra original mag for the CW45. I also was able to go to the range and shoot about 110 rds. (Federal Champion (FC), Winchester white box both FMJ 230 gr.) For personal protection ammo about 10 rds of, both, Winchester PDX1 230 gr JHP bonded and Hornady Critical Defense 185 gr FTX . Everything worked just fine! I did follow all the recommendations on the manual and had no problems or malfunctions whatsoever! The only ammo that it didn’t take so well was the cheapo Tulammo (230 gr)with the steel casings. Needles to say I will stay away from this one for now. I’ll give a try later after the break-in is done.

Accuracy was just fine for being the first time. At 7 paces (+/- 7 yards) I was hitting the metal plates between 7-8 times out of 10. About the same rate as when I first shot my BIL’s Kimber Pro Carry in 45 ACP. My grip was very good. I didn’t have to readjust my hands after the 6 or 7 shots before the mags were out.
Tomorrow I’ll try to go with my son and shoot another 100 or 150 more rds.

Overall … I’m very happy with my CW45. I’ll let you all know how it continuous to perform.

Got to the range early and spent another 110 rds on the CW45 and everything went perfect! No FTF, FTE or anything! Then gave it a good cleaning and is ready for the next time. Now I feel that I need to get another Kahr pistol, which one could be the best choice for a "light" carry? Should be at least a cal. 9 or maybe 40 s&w.

Next time I'll go with my bodies and try their XDM 45 ACP and 1911's and see how it compares. I guess I'm ready for a challenge!

Well... went to the range with 3 of my bodies. I put 80 more rounds through my CW45 and had not a single problem with it. Not only that but my other 3 friends also shoot my gun and had no problems neither. I also chambered my Kahr racking the slide manually and, again, had no problems. This gun has worked perfectly from the start and I'm very satisfy with it.

Again, read the manual and go to the Kahr's webpage and read the FAQ. This CW45 has perform well for me so far, but I have followed the intructions and recommendations of the manufacturer. Kahr pistols require more attention at first (breaking period?) and are different from most other guns I have so far, but this will be my main carry piece form now on.

We shot the guns at 7 yards and the CW45 did very well. The 5 to 6 shots groupings were about 3 to 4 inches for 3 of us, but for the 4th guy... well the most experienced of us, his groupings were about 2 inches. Very nice!

As an additional bonus, to me, was that I got to shoot the 1911's of my bodies. One Kimber with a single stack mag, another Kimber with a double stack mag and a Colt. All of them with 5" bbl's and in 45 ACP. Great guns too and what a wonderful day yesterday was.

Jonie45,
Great to hear that your CW45 is working so well. I have one and am very fond of it. I did have some problems with it early on, but was able to work past them and now have a reliable and accurate pistol. One thing I would recommend is replacement of the OEM front sight. It's made of plastic and held on by two small post that have their ends melted. I've removed two (I also have a CW9) when installing night sights and have been amazed at how easily the front sight comes off:
Kahr and Dawson Precision offer metal replacement sights.

In regards to holsters, I have a Glock 27 and find that most generic (and some custom fit) holsters for it will work well with the CW45.

If you are interested, here's link to some info I posted elsewhere in regards to my CW45 and some issues that I had with it along with some tips on how I fixed them:

Greg
