| Feed ramp dings
I took my new Ultra Carry out and ran 100 rounds through it. When cleaning I noticed the feed ramp was dinged up a little. I didn't have and feeding problems and have already replaced the factory mag that caused the problem with Wilson mags. My question is can you polish the feed ramp with a dremel tool or is this better done by a smith. If able what type head and polish would you recommend? |

DON'T polish the feedramp on an aluminum frame. You'll remove the hard anodizing, and then the frame will have no protection. Call Kimber and voice your concerns to them. An alternative is to have a steel feed ramp insert installed. Any of the smiths here can take care of that for you. EGW sells an insert... --Mark |

Mark, Thank you for the advice. I will inform Kimber of the issue. I haven't had any FTF at this point, so I think I will continue shooting until I have a problem. |

Spoke with Dennis at Kimber several times about this problem on my ProCDP. He says not to worry about the dings as long as the pistol is feeding well, which mine is. He told me if the pistol stops feeding smoothlyI should send it back to Kimber where they will fix it under warrantee. He also WARNED me in no uncertain terms that under no circumstances should I polish the feed ramp! Hope this helps. Mike |

Those dings come from the follower in Chip McCormick magazines. My Ultra Carry (original series) has had the dings for about two years and well over 5,000 rounds. The pistol is absolutely reliable and isn't fussy about ammunition or magazines.

The part of the frame that gets dinged is not the feedramp if you have an Ultra II. As far as I know, the feedramp on your gun should be part of the barrel. When my Ultra got damaged by the mag, I sent it back to Kimber and they filed out the dings and adjusted the extractor. According to Kimber, the anodizing is not the hardening. They hard the complete frame by heat treating and not just the surface. Deezul |
