Barrel Hood Wear

Good morning:
I have a new TLE II. I have not fired it yet. I was going to clean and lubricate the pistol yesterday when I noticed wear marks on the barrel hood. I have 8 magazines that I tested with the TLE to see if the slide would lock on an empty mag. They all locked and I may have pulled back the slide on 3 or 4 other occasions. I have absolutely no experience in gunsmithing but my gut feeling is that this cnnnot be a good sign of things to come.
I tried calling Kimber's custom shop folks yesterday but their phone lines are down[Snow storm].
Can anyone advise me on this?
Thanks
Joe

It's normal. The barrel hood rubs on the inside of the slide when the pistol cycles. During assembly the slide was probably hand cycled and the pistol was probably test fired at the factory as well.

I'd only be concerned if the locking lugs and the front edge of the hood begin rounding off
excessively.

Thanks for your reply Dave; I'll have to check-out your site.
Mr. Hall and Dave if those things did happen, would it indicate that the barrel and slide were not matched properly?

It would indicate that the barrel wasn't fit properly but not necessarily to the slide. It could have a link that was the wrong length or not enough frame clearance.
