| New Ultra Carry II owner with questions
Howdy from Texas ! I am the new owner of an Ultra Carry II and have been reading this forum with avid interest. I appreciate all those willing to spend time passing information their experienced based information to others. Couple of questions: After reading several comments about ammo, what is the best recommended ammo for this handgun? If this was your gun, what would you do as far as mods..... springs, magazines, nite sights, etc ? Thanks in advance. I made the switch from Glock to Kimber, so your information will help me from making mistakes by 'trial and error' when spending money ! |

Thanks HappyGunner, that was exactly the information I was looking for. Just finished ordering the mags from the link you provided, have sent an e-mail to Kimber about the Meprolight night sights, and will be looking for ammo next week when I visit the 'big city' again. How did you ship to Kimber when you had the night sights installed ? Do you have to ship the whole gun, or just the slide ? I hope it is just the slide, or I have to go looking for an FFL to ship. Thanks, Dave |

| Shipping to Kimber Quote:
First I am sorry to be so slow I have a new computer and have to re-set all my URLs and install software. :x You can ship it yourself you dont need a FFL dealer. Also Kimber will ship it back direct to you. Don't ask how they get buy with it they just do it myself I never asked. Your State might have tougher restrictings covering the shipment of firearms. But if you don't ship the frame it's just tooling not a firearm. I had another problem so I had to ship the whole gun back. I would ask Dennis or who ever you contact at Kimber as to what you need to send. If it's only the slide you can just call it tooling. When I shipped my complete Ultra Carry I sent it FED-X overnite this is mandatory I beleive. Ask how you need to address package I think it's just KIM and their Yonkers address be sure to ask them. And be sure and insure the package. Feel free to ask any further questions. HG/DK

Thanks HG, I'll be calling tomorrow (Monday) to see what I can get worked out. Found this web site for a holster, think I am going to go with them for a matching rig..... OWB pancake holster, belt and mag pouch. Prices are not bad and I have found good reviews of their products on other sites: http://www.taurisholsters.com/products.cfm |

HappyGunner, This may seem like a totally redundant question... if so, bear in mind that I am switching to the Ultra Carry II from Glocks, and S&W revolvers prior to the Glocks: Was going to take the slide off today to send it in to Kimber for the night sight installation. Read the owners manual on the dis-assembly procedures, noticed I have to use a 'take down tool'. I have searched the box that this new Ultra came in, can't find anything like what is described in the manual. Will anything else suffice, or do I need to order one and wait ? Compared to taking a Glock apart, this one appears to be a little on the complicated side. Thanks Dave |

| They do take getting used to Quote:
The UCs take a little getting used to they are somewhat tougher at first to take down. But trust me after you do it a few times it's a snap well almost a snap. As for the take down tool any small wire you can bend and fit into the small hole in the recoil guide rod will keep the thing togather while taking it apart. It's a tight fit so make the bend tight. Just take your time and remember not to squeeze the grip safety as it lifts the safety pin up and into the slide and makes removing the slide impossible. Just take your time and don't force the slide. Good Luck

Thanks HappyGunner and Reloader, The slide is on its way to Kimber's custom shop for the night sight installation, they said turnaround time would be about a wek. Wilson mags ordered from the link HG provided and should be here by Friday or Monday. I do appreciate the information. Kimber is sending me a new take down tool, but the paper clip worked just fine ! Found a new Galco FLETCH holster on e-bay for this gun, it will suffice while the custom holster, belt and mag carrier are in production. Be safe, Dave |

Just another path one can take if needed. |

Kimber's service was fast, turnaround time was 10 days. Would have been faster, but they shipped it back by UPS Ground and tracking info showed a late train caused a delay somewhere up north. If I had known they were going to return it that way, I would have paid extra for UPS Second Day Air. The turnkey price for the night sights was $142.50, and that included the shipping. UPS man also brought the Crimson Trace LG-404 laser grips yesterday, those are very nice. This new style has a front activation switch instead of the older style 304's that have side activation switches. They replace the factory grips and have a slightly wider, but very good feel to them. I have the CT grips on other guns, I much prefer the steady laser dot rather than the pulsating dot like on the Lasermax I had in my Glock. Here is the link to these grips on the CT website, including a pic: http://www.crimsontrace.com/default.asp?id=329 CT's website suggests retail of the LG404 at $329.00, I paid $249.50 off e-bay from: info@holstersupply.com I have purchased several CT grips from this dealer, he is very good and very fast about getting them to his customers. |

Greeting's All- I'm the proud owner of a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II myself, as it serves as my daily CCW piece. I did opt for the Wilson mags previously mentioned; but have not installed night sights, or ordered an extra recoil spring. Let me stress, this gun has been perfect in every respect; from fit to finish, reliablility, and accuracy. It even feeds all types of JHP's without even a burp. Some people say that the small, 3" 1911's are not reliable; but so far I haven't found that too be true~! |

Sorry to hijack your post, but I was looking at those Comp- Tac holsters, and the X- Draw paddle holster has caught my eye. I was wondering if after sliding my compact stainless in and out a lot, would my gun start to show wear? Also, do they make one to fit my Compact?

I have an ultra-carry II stainless and here are the mods I'm thinking about right now. 1. I have 7 mags, (4 Kimber 3 Wilson) I'm going to be getting Wilson follwers and pads for the Kimbers) 2. I'm going to get a Wilson Combat extended slide release to replace the one from Kimber. 3. I'm going to get a new trigger with curved sides, probably one that's a bit lighter in weight (not pull, it is my carry gun) so I don't get blisters going through 800 rounds in two days at the range. 4. I'm going to get an extra recoil assembly as a spare when this one dies. 5. Crimson Trace laser grips OR TFO night sights (haven't decided which yet) 6. I'm going to either chrome or polish the sides of the slide or maybe the whole slide. 7. I'm probably going to get the frame blued to give it a STRONG two-tone look. 8. I'm thinking about getting a spurless hammer to replace the factory one. 9. Then most of all, since I'm not a smith I'm going to get it detail cleaned every 6 months. Hopefully my smith will teach me how to dissassemble the more sensitve parts so I can do my own detailed cleanings. |
