Almost new kimber that is.. I bought a Tactical Custom II on consignment. I shot it last night for the first time. Shot great except it hung open about 5 times. and jammed loading a bullet up the throat. I took it apart, and saw a small booger on the ramp, its a little low on the ramp to affect the bullet "I think" butt I could be wrong. I had bought 2 chip mcormick 8 round power mags used at Reddings and maybe the springs are worn? Maybe I was holding the gun too soft?

Would it be wise to take it to a gunsmith? Or send it to Kimber?

Kimbers are good pistols. If you have trouble it is usually a magazine or ammo issue. I'm not saying that it is not the gun, but it is usually related to something else.

If I were you, I would clean it and lube it. (When lubing a 1911...think old shovel head Harley with a oil leak) Thats right, give it plenty of oil. I would try it with different ammo and mags. If none of that works, I'd send it back to Kimber for sugery.

I feel kinda lame for buying used mags but hey... live and learn.. A guy at the range said he prefers Wilson combat mags to anything else. You personal pref?

I rely on Wilson but shoot Chip Mc at the range.

Chip Mc Cormick mags are good and I use them for indoor matches where the mags are dropped on concrete (because they are cheaper ops: ). For carry and other matches, I use Wilson. I have never had a Wilson Mag go South and I never clean them like I should.

I'm sure there are others out there that are just as good, but I have not used them.

By "hung open" do you mean slide lock with rounds still in the magazine?

Yes, rounds in mag, slide open but not on the slide stop. It looks like its eating itself..

Alloy frame is getting a new booger after every 100-150 rounds with probably 3 jams..

I was just trying to duplicate your malfunction with my Kimber Compact. Since the slide stop isn't catching it, is it hung on the disconnector or is a round hanging on the bottom of the ramp where it meets the frame?
Haven't got a "booger" on my alloy frame. Only thing I can think of there is the fromt of your mags may be catching it.

I took it to Jim Hoag. His shop is literally 2 miles from my house. SO, lets just say a Jim Hoag trigger job feels pretty frickin nice.. And lets hope it fires properly now.. He says it will..

No he didnt, but I didnt ask. I doubt he would share his secrets with me though.
