Surefire Delta folding combat/utility knife model EW-04

I bought this knife based on the high tech description of its Crucible CPM S30V blade steel is blasted with silicon carbide, coated with tungsten diamond-like carbon, top-coated with CVD diamond.
However, the blade looks like ordinally steel to my eye.
Would someone explain to me what Surefire meant when they decribed the blade in the statement above?
Thank you
Alex

Silicon carbide is a common abrasive used in blasting machines to deburr small parts and provide a fairly atractive finish. This is quicker and cheaper than polishing. "Tungsten diamond-like carbon" sound suspiciously like one of the several graphite type finishes used on piston rings and many other items (including gun parts) to reduce corrosion. "CVD diamond" is probably a creation of the marketing department . I would bet the same could be said for "Crucible CPM S30V" blade steel. There is no magic in steel making. No doubt they are using a good quality steel, just like any other first line knife maker. The complet description was written to convince you that the inflated price was justified. I would pay more attention to what your eye is telling you than what you read in brochures.

Lots of hype out there.

The material a knife is made from is certainly a secondary consideration. Design and comfort would come first and quality of assembly and components other than the blade as well.

There is no such thing as "the BESTâ„¢ steel.
