"Charles Daly these list around $460 for the Field EFS check on Davidsons they are $354"

the Davidson's price is a 'dealer" price. if you have someone whos willing to order one of these for you for there dealer price thats great. i would also recomend the Springfield Mil-Spec. its a great base to build on, and as you later on become comfortable with your gun, you can put a little payola back here and there to have the thing torked up a little to your specs.

The only 1911 at that price point worth considering that I know of is the SA Milspec.

griffon

I have a Griffon----have shot about 500 rds --no problems, even with the mags. that came with it.
sights are set too low for me and the only thing I could do was to bend the rear up. Not enough on front to file down(love the sights on it---red-green combo

I purchases a Springfield Armory MilSpec recently after tax $393. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it seem to be a very good quality gun. If it feeds well and hit POA I'd be ok with it as my primary carry weapon.

What are you guys opinions on the polymer Kimbers? The Basic Pistols are less than $500. I have no first hand knowledge of them.

I had a polymer Kimber for a short time. The basic gun was so-so but the magazines were hard to find. Especially the hicaps.

Springfield Armory 1911 WWII model

Try the SA 1911 WWII Replica. I've seen them around here for about $400. They have the too flat to use sights, but the ones I've held were VERY tight guns. From what I could see, the only real difference between the WWII and Mil Spec is the better sights on the Mil Spec. Worth $50+ dollars? For about $60, you could knock in a new front sight and install one of the CMC easy-fit rear sights.

38 Super Combat Commander

38 Super Combat Commander,
all I can say is springfield armory 1911 mil-spec or the mil-spec gi. I think if you shop around you can get one for a little more than $400. And you could not ask for a better platform for future upgrades to get it the way you want it. I have one and love it just the way it is.
