Please help me determine what it's worth. 1918 Colt 1911

I have a Colt 1911 "us army", made in 1918. It's in great shape. Original bluing, not reconditioned, a very small amount of light pitting on the slide. I'm having a hard time in trying to determine it's value. Anyway, The serial # is 3341xx. Stamped on the frame (above the mag release button)there appears to be a bell shaped item with an S14 underneath. The mainspring housing has "SRQ503615" engraved neatly on it. I believe that that was the serial # of the GI carrying it. It says "Property of the us army" on it. If you open up the slide and look directly into the ejector port, just underneath where the firing pin would come out, there appears to be a "K" and a "W". the barrel is has a small "HP" stamped on it. The barrel is beautiful.
I was offered $1000.00 for it, but we were told by someone else to be careful, that it may bring far more than that to the right person. As I said, It it's in very nice shape. Any ideas on it' worth, or where IO can find it's worth?

If you were offered $1000 I am betting your gun could bring a lot more.

Flaman,
the 1918 production year was the highest year of production for the Model 1911(I am not talking about the Model 1911 A1). That said (or typed) only the best original ones draw top dollar. You dont state the percentage of finish but if it is all correct and atleast 90% finish w/ the pitting $1300 or more would be more in line (depends on how bad the pitting is). Best place to sell is AuctionArms.com or GunsAmerica.com. Also post it on my classified pages on www.1911info.com (gets 500 visitors a day). You will need to take some pictures if you are going to sell it on the web.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Ty
