Re: VALTRO

I heard that the guy that was building them started supplying the Military Special Groups with pistols. If that is true...you'll wait a while before seeing any civilian models.

They are suppose to be nice pistols, but I can't imagine them being better than some of the top name makers out there.

Re: VALTRO

A friend of mine bought a Valtro 6 or 7 years ago.

Very accurate, but during an IPSC match the safety broke, leaving him high and dry.

He now shoots an STI Edge. Sold the gun.

As buddy says " I can't imagine them being better than some of the top name makers out there."

Get yourself an S_I or what ever floats your boat.

Re: VALTRO

The Valtro's are Italian 1911s worked over by John Jardine.http://www.valtrousa.com/1988a145acp.html
They are still at about a 2-3 year wait and growing. It is a fine handgun for the price. There are several others out there that I would say are equal or better (feature rich) than this handgun for the price. But the Valtro is worth waiting for if that is what you want. One of the other best kept secrets out there used to be the Rock River 1911. I consider it to be one of the best values for the money if you are looking for a semi-custom and like the "hard fit" genre of 1911. Also I would stack up the Nighthawk Rock River, Valtro, Ed Brown, Les Baer, and others into the same general catagory. Once you get above about $2000 for a 1911 I would start shopping for a custom builder to make just what you want if there is not something specific in the semi-custom guns that satisfy your needs off of the shelf. If there is not a configuration that is just exactly what you are looking for off of the shelf then I would recommend contacting the gunsmith of your choice to get a custom built. You can get a full custom for about what you would pay for a semi-custom. The difference is that you might be able to get the semi-custom right away and then have to wait for the smith to build your gun.

Re: VALTRO

Hi Folks.
It's been a while since I posted and I hope everyone is doing alright. So at the end of the day I'm assuming Valtro's will not be available.
Has anyone kept up with the pricing of them on the second hand market?

Re: VALTRO

No, I haven't had the pleasure of handling the Valtro or seeing one. Must be one heck of a gun or a lot of hype with all of the press I've read.

I just bought an STI Lawman to use as a back-up gun when shooting USPSA Single Stack Division. It is no longer a back-up gun, I am so impressed with this pistol that I cannot see anything being any better other than cosmetics. I have owned and shot most of the top named guns and this one will do everything that any of them will do for about $1200 to $1300. The only negative I have found is the bluing is a little dull, but I plan to find someone to hard chrome it anyway.

If you are in the market for a quality pistol at a reasonable price...take a look. Sell it when your Valtro comes in, if you think you the Valtro is better.
