The Remington Model 1911 R1 is manufactured with pride and precision, to the exacting standards you’ve come to expect from Remington. Right here in Ilion, New York.

That makes it Remington, correct?

Ray, a 'Nam pard of mine ordered a SA 1911. When it came in, he refused to take it because it was made in Brazil. He subsequently purchased an R-1 and he loves it, especially that it's made in the US of A...

Good morning Joe. I understand and endorse the desire to buy American! When I was looking to buy a SA Range Officer 1911, I was delighted to find that it was made here in the USA.

Does anyone know what percentage of the parts have to be made in the USA before it can be said "built in the USA?"

I once called the custom shop at SA and asked about where their guns were made.

All Springfield 1911s are made from frames and slides made in Brazil. Even their five thousand custom shop jobs. If the gun is finished more than 50% in Brazil, it is stamped "Made in Brazil". If the gun was finished in the US, it is stamped as a US made gun.

Yeah -- ZERO

It's not just the percentage of parts, it's something like percentage of overall production cost, or labor. ALL Springfield's (1911) receivers, slides, and pretty much all the small parts are made in Brazil by Imbel. The lower-tier pistols are completely assembled in Brazil and are marked "Made in Brazil." Some of the upper-tier pistols are shipped to the U.S. as parts and final assembly is performed here. Apparently, that counts as enough of the overall production to qualify them to stamp them "Made in USA."

Imbel is an okay source, for what it's worth. They make the weaponry for the Brazilian army. I won't buy a Springfield 1911, but not over the fact they are made in Brazil. I have other issues with the company, but their 1911s are generally solid pistols.
