Grip safety binding

I'm looking for a diagnosis for the following issue. I recently had a new hammer, sear, sear spring, disconnect and strut put in my 1911. When the hammer is down, the grip safety moves in and out easily with proper tension. When the hammer is cocked, if I press on the rear of the grip safety it moves freely, however, if I put a little pressure on the grip safety from the bottom right, the safety does not move, but instead feels like it's binding. Could the strut be binding on the grip safety?

That could be or the tang of the grip safety is binding on the frame.

But is also sounds like the hole for the thumb safety is too large if you can apply uneven pressure like that.

Yep. Ink up ("Magic Marker") the channel in the grip safety through which the strut passes. It's not uncommon for an aftermarket strut (why did you change it?) to bind, particularly when the hammer is cocked. "Improved" geometry, don't you know .

Walt

dan fi, there is no uneven pressure, but if I press on the corner of the back pad of the GS, it should depress. I am pretty sure its the strut interfering becasue it does not happen if the hammer is not cocked.

Walt, I changed to try a titanium strut, but if its too much to to fix the prob, Ill just switch back to the old one. Thanks

Fixin's pretty easy. Just find the spot where the strut is binding, and stone the strut down. I've used Ti struts; don't know that they do anything, but at least they wont rust .

Best regards,

Walt

Thanks Walt, I used a maker on the strut and discovered it was rubbing on the right side toward the bottom, Probably rubbing on the channel in the GS. I filed and stoned the area,,, now the GS depresses perfect.
