1911 M45 (CQBP) dual recoil spring

After reading the description of the new 1911 Colt Rail Gun what stuck with me most was that the new 1911 M45 will be fitted with a dual recoil spring, just wondering if any body can enlighten me concerning the new dual recoil springs advantage over the single 16 pound or 14.5 pound recoil spring that the 1911 was originally designed to run with, for which it has for over 100 years.

In some of the information that has been released there is a report that some of the slide developed cracks during their 12,000 round testing, wonder if that might be a direct result to the dual recoil spring ?

For the price, they are getting a custom-quality M1911A1 80-series Colt railgun with a Cercoat finish, stainless internals, Novak sights, and a dual recoil spring assembly borrowed from their 10mm program.

This question is best suited for one of out ace pistolwrenchers. All I know is that in some other semiauto pistols the dual springs give me the feeling that recoil is being soaked up a little better than if the same model can also be had with a single spring.

Heck, we're having to fit our magazine with 10% heavier spring just to keep up with the 16 pound action springs, unless the dual spring suggested by Colt is also a two stage spring that works like the variable action spring, and doesn't exceed 16 pound of return to battery energy.

Not having witnessed the Colt 10mm action spring system all my assumptions, might turn out to be pure speculations.

Wel,, keep in mind that dual springs have been used for a good while in the aftermarket. I have used recoil reducers in 1911s and Glocks with varying results myself. I have had a G22 that was a dream to shoot for everyone BUT the owner. SHame but it choked on him constantly.

Many say the idea of the 2 spring system is just that. Recoil reduction. Some say it can help save frames, but I have yet to find a way to prove or test that.
