Man, I'm sorry I missed your question. I only stop by here once-in-a-while due to low traffic these days. I should have been alerted to a new response but wasn't. I'll check my settings.
I really like the Rock Island. Stock, it came filled with what appeared to be Mueschke and Mason parts, which are not top-of-the-line. (The same was true with the old Charles Daly 1911 I had.)
I stripped the Rock Island. Everything went. Only the barrel, frame, and slide were kept. I was going to replace the barrel, too, but it just shot so nice I couldn't do it.
Right now, the only MIM part is the hammer. I'm playing with it; its a Wilson Value Line.
Why? I was curious as to whether a good manufacturer could do MIM right, and make it as strong as forged or even cast.
Talking to some of the bigger folks in the industry, I've found that the hammer hooks are slightly off due to some manufacturing necessity, and are therefore not the best.
I'm going to by buying a True Radius jig, and will fit an Brown sear and new hammer (probably also Brown) to it. I really like a short rolling trigger break in favor of the crisp break, and while I round the sears, the True Radius will do what I want it to do even better.
