I've heard that shuemann barrels are very accurate. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences or comments on this? What other barrel manufacturers should I look at for accuracy?

Strayer-Voigt (SVI) uses Schuemann barrels exclusively. If you check out the AET barrels, you will find some serious engineering and machining. These barrels are for serious competition, and have the technical credentials to prove it.

Excellant barrels, Wil Schuemans barrels are something else. He uses progressive twist and variable lands in his "AET" (Accuracy Enhancing Technology). The Basic barrels are very nice. You can set the headspacing and the 30 degree full radius muzzle crown is very sexy on a 1911. You could not make a better choice in my opinion.

I put a Schuemann pre-fit in my M1911A1, and it shoots little, if any more accurately than the same gun with the barrel from a M1991A1. Quite a little bit of fitting had to be done to the Schuemann's hood, and then it had to be re-throated to match the frame. The Colt barrel was a true drop-in, and it functions and shoots just as well. A properly-fit gunsmith barrel would undoubtedly shoot better than the stocker, but I didn't find the pre-fit barrel to be worth the considerable cost.

Ditto on the Colt barrels. From the reading and experience I have had Colt barrels were always good shooters. The problem...if you can call it that...is the milspec fitting cuts didn't always yield consistant lockup. Get a tight consistant lockup and they shoot nicely.

I have a Scheumann AET on my SV race gun. It has really cool features like: fluted chamber, and gain-twist rifling. The test trarget that came with it shows one ragged hole at 50 ft (?). I've never seen rifling lands like these before. If you can picture in your mind cords of thread spiralled down a smooth bore, that's all can come with to describe it. I can't believe how accurate my race gun is! These barrels rock! Check out the SVI web sight.
