| no more para's
hate to be a downer or piss in anyone's cheerios but i think para pistols are poor quality. parts and workmanship need big improvement's. my first para was a single stack full size LDA 7.45, beautiful gun and accurate, but i had too send it in 2 for mechanical issues( trigger that froze up cold) and slide would not lock back when racked manually. i realize this is only one gun but it made me think of the money i spent for it. the people at para are cool and they fixed the problem's but the bluing on the front strap started wearing off shortly after. it only had around 500 rounds thru it at that point, i sent it back again. almost a year goes by( no i didnt check on it's progress because i really didnt want it back) i get a phone call from some douchebag at para asking me to send 80 something dollars for the rebluing job and they would send it back to me my response was ( keep it)!!

You left a $700 pistol at Para over an $80 bill...like a man with principles! Take Care |

Do some simple math and deduct the $80.00 from the amount you can get for the pistol. Even at a pawn shop you would walk away with money in your pocket. I am sure you have left the Para Ordinance customer service folks scratching their heads, but is it worth it? I sure would hate to see you have to defend yourself with a banana. Buddy |

I also got a lemon from para, but they aren't the only mass producers of 1911's to be shipping junk. It's a crapshoot with production guns. They use us as the fuinal test part of their production line.....

| pawn the para
this is california buddy most pawnbroker's don't have the knowledge or the ball's to do the red tape on firearm's any more. their sticking with guitar's and jewelry, they want nothing to do with the state's overbearing gun law's hindering their business. i don't blame them. i tried a few

i'd rather cut my loss and save 80 dollar's now than be stuck with a gun that might fail AGAIN later in a situation where i need it to not fail.

Heck if it wasn't such a bother for you and me to export/import firearms across the 49th (Your laws are as stupid as ours are in this regard) I would pay the $80. Hell of a deal for a free re-blued gun. Take Care Bob |

Well we will have to agree to disagree. I have an SSP that has been flawless from day one and my son has my P-14 that has never failed to fire. I suspect Todd Jarett might not agree with you either. Take Care Bob |

this is why no dealer within a 70 mile radius of where i live will stock/order paras... too much chance of getting junk that looks good... i gave up on ALL 1911s after 35 years and bought an H&K... |

Hmm, I guess I'm in the fight. You just degraded 1911's! 1911's will be here when we are all gone. They are for fighting and fun. Some are troublesome when shoddy work or parts are used, but can be put into service by a competent Smith. The same goes for your beloved H&K, SIG, Glock, and anything else mechanical. As for Para, I have 3 factory pistols and one custom built on a Para frame. I find them to be very accurate and dependable. The only gripe I have had is one with adjustable sights won't crank down far enough for my point of aim. It is hitting close, but I would like it on the spot. I own SIG's, Glocks, Kahr's, Smith's, Beretta's, and more; If I had to choose one gun it would be one of my 1911's. Buddy |

Robert, I seriously doubt TJ competes with the same para the average man can walk into a gun shop and buy. Same with the Springfield TGO shoots. I know the smith that used to work at Springfield and built the pistols for Rob Latham. As I've said before....I won't work on Paras....I could be wrong, This is based on how Paras were ten years and more back in time. Back then .....every hole drilled in the frames would be out of spec with 1911 drawin's. Maybe Para has their own Specs that only works with their parts. I might be downin' a great pistol. BUT.....All Yaw'l know the old southern adage" ONCE BIT ....TWICE SHY". Thanks, Billy M |

Todd regularily does exhibitions with a Para LDA with 250,000 rds through it. The gun is on it's 4th barrel. He won one of his USPA Championships with a stock LDA when they first came out. Not a lot of aftermarket parts for the LDA. Take Care Bob |

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. If you send the 80 bucks to Para, I'll help you out and send you 100 bucks and take that lemon off your hands. I'll even pay the shipping so your not out anything. I would do this, just as a fovor to help out a fellow forum member. |

Geez where does all this hate come from.....leaving a 700 dollar gun at manufacturer because your too lazy to make back your investment with a simple want ad on cal guns? sorry dude, but the shooting community does not need people like you involved.

I purchased a new Para carry 45 for about $900 and I don't think in the couple years or so I owned it I was ever able to get it to go through a single magazine without a stove pipe, jam, ftf, or something. I knew when I pulled the trigger it was going to be like xmas, there was a suprise with each trigger pull. Twice back to the Para people taking several months each time, no difference. The dealer I bought it from finally told me if I would oil the feed ramp between rounds it should work. Sigh. I know how this fellow feels because I FELT like leaving mine there but instead I took mine into a local pawnshop and got $600 cash for it, probably the best gun deal I have ever made. I bought a Bersa 45 for my pop at the same time I got my Para and when ever we went out shooting he would just be banging away half the day with a big smile on his chops while I was cursing trying in vain to get my 45 to work at least sometimes. I went to a beretta bobcat 22, which with ccI stingers works very well. Not even close to the stopping power I realize, but I would rather have a 22 in my pocket that I know will fire than a 45 at the factory. Sammy |

Hmmmmmm.... My old Para p-14 .45 has been running like the dickens since I bought it back sometime in the last century.... ( about 1994 or so, if memory serves me...) Bone stock, new para mags about five or so years ago.... old ones are relegated to training, but work as well as the new ones... It might not have been the best $400 I've ever spent on a gun, but I got no complaints... Rock... |

Werd. Old thread, indeed. I dig Paras, personally. I've not had a bad experience or a customer with a bad experience either. I do know of a couple shops around that wont stock or even order you one because of their QC issues. Same with Taurus, which I haven't had a bad run in with either.

My first one was when they only made widebody frames. I bought one and had an AMT slide installed on it. It ran great for years. Traded it and I wish I hadn't. I have had 2 LDAs and they were great. My current Para is a stainless P10.45. I will never trade this one off.
