| CMC & Ed Brown Grip Safety Comparison
Is the Chip McCormick grip safety that much higher than the Ed Brown? And is the McCormick a higher quality and better spec'd part? (I heard Brown's tooling had gotten a little sloppy) Is one easier or more difficult to have installed? Is the "PAD" on the Ed Brown that much larger and more positive than the McCormick? It looks thicker in photos and the McCormick looks thinner and shorter. I have low volume hands and hand damage which makes it difficult to get a high ride grip. _________________ |

The only answer to Your question is for You to order each one You are interested in from Brownells, pick the one You like the best, send the others back....Then the frame must be radiused and the excess metal removed, then You can start removein metal from the frame and safety until You get what You want or go toooooo far ops: At that point pick up the TIG torch, weld metal to the frame ,Reach for another safety and go again ......Far as slop goes I've never seen any pistolsmith shop machnein' out safetys, probably all made by one or two suppliers.....If one is higher than the other it is only a few thousands.....Just for fun call Mc cormich and Brown, Ask "Sir just how much height will my hand gain by usein' Your safety'" If They claim to be the highest They should have the dataBill Caldwell |

Like a pair of shoes - what feels comfortable to you may be terrible for me. The Brown is way too flat on the underside for my hand, and actually hurts. The last CMC I purchased had several flaws from the mold, such that it was not useable. I liked the shape of it. Novak's is actually machining their own beavertail, as a companion to their one-piece backstrap/beavertail, also machined. I have the very first carbon steel machined beavertail to leave their shop on a neat old LW Commander. I don't think they are selling them out on the market as a part - you have to pay them to install. |

Gentlemen, In short Brown HAS BEEN sloppy on grip safeties and the CMC Extreme is the only way to fly for my hand. Will not go into casting voids noted in the most expensive, at the time. grip safety in the business...fwiw & imho Regards, Matt Garrett 757-581-6270 |
