Hi, My name is Scott Horn, I am not a gunsmith, but I do tinker a little and do minor work on 1911's and AR's. I am looking for a custom slide for my pre-70 series colt 1911… (made in 1968) I don’t want to mill the original slide….i want to keep that original. So I have a few questions, and I am sending a picture of what I am looking for. I am looking for a Flat top with the milling in the picture I sent with a lowered ejection port, and maybe go with scallops on the sides of the slide instead of the straight line milling. The slide doesn’t need to be stainless, as I am going to Cerakote it., and I would want a guide rod for the slide spring, can this be done ….. Also I would want the sight keyways milled for Novak type sights (and a keyway mill for the front sight). What is the turnaround time on a completed slide once the order is complete? And what are we looking at for price. I can find anyone to help me with this? The second picture (cocking grooves) is something I like, and was wondering if that could be done instead of straight line milling….can anyone hook me up with a smith for this? well...I cant post a picture, I can only do a URL so this might not be as helpful as I though, lol....so if any smith wants a job, I can provide my email address, and if you email me I can send you the pictures... airborneknives@gmail.com

There are plenty of 1911 gunsmiths around, most of whom are booked solid for some time.

One I can recommend is Frank Glenn. He can do most anything you want. I don't know about his prices or turnaround, but you only get what you pay for.

Another is Cylinder & Slide Shop.
They're a world class custom shop who are well known for the quality of work and can do most anything you can pay for.
The price will be high and turnaround will probably be a little slow due to the work load:

Cylinder & Slide Inc

You might check with Caspian, they may offer what you want. They make slides for a lot of custom shops to stamp their names on. They do offer Novak cut slides and some really unique flat top machining patterns.
