| Left handed bolt actions
A few questions for those who use or train those who rifles in a law enforcement or military field. 1. Are there any provisions for left handed shooters? Or is it simply adapt or get out. 2. Is a left handed action that important? I ask because I would like to pick up a bolt action in .308 or .300 win mag. I am a lefty, but I have almost zero experience with bolt action rifle shooting. I hope to develope enough skill that I may either train LEO in precision shooting, and/or be LEO doing precision shooting. I would like to start off right. And no matter what it's always a good reason to pick up another firearm. |

well the military doesnt like lefty's for snipers, and i would assume that for law enforcement it would be at the departments discretion. do you absolutely need a left handed rifle- no! you can learn to operate and make follow up shots just as fast and accurate as the average righty, yes a good righty will beat you. ive only ever shot one left handed bolt action, and yes it is nicer than using a right handed one. left handed bolt guns are slim pickin's- only certain models are offered for lefty's, and then usually only in certain calibers. so if you find a left handed rifle in a model and caliber you like grab it, if not- its not the end of the world.

Kavall, I shoot with some local LE guys 2 of which are left handed but shoot right handed Rem 700. I asked them sometime ago if their lefthandedness prohibited them from shooting accurately at long ranges. Both answered in the same way, lots and lots of practice and getting used to shooting right handed. USMC M40A1/M40A3 are right hand only US Army M24 right hand only Since you have "zero experience" in shooting bolts, then by all means give it a go. You will find out that if you have a dominant left eye it makes shooting right hand a little difficult. But with proper technique and range time, you can teach yourself how to focus properly with both eyes open and shoot right handed. Good Luck True Eyes |

theres no reason you cant shoot any rifle lefty i dont shoot righty cause all i have is a righty rifle its a righthanded world the only problem and its minor is the fluidness of chambering the next round without losing your target and i can do that. semis or combat autos are a different story but only as to were they kick spent brass so some models offer brass deflectors so your not eating it. imprvise and adapt
