7x57 Sucks

HA! I hope this got someones attention the precision rifles thread is dying, guys we need to post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incidently the 7x57 is one of my all time favorite rounds, and the only thing that sucks is you can't buy primo old mausers for less than $100 any more.

My favorite load is 140 gr. Noslers clocking at around 2700 fps
( estimated and corrected for my short barrel ). Second favorite load are Sierra 140 gr with almost similar veloccity. My other very useful load are 160 gr Speer Grand Slams that about 100 fps slower.

Anybody else got some pet loads?

Couldn't let this one pass.

The 7X57 really sucks with the Nosler 140-grain factory loads: lovely sucking chest wounds on southern whitetail and hogs. My pre-war Obendorf Mauser Sporter loves those rounds and groups them so that looking for anything better is only a minor amusement. The Noslers perform as superbly as they have for half a century now.

Always nice to see something from a 7X57 enthusiast.

Been working with the 150 nosler partions, and it rocks. It collapsed my buck last fall and I haven't chrono'ed it but it sure caved my deer...I shot one drop.

And I like my little 6.5X54 M-S with 140-grain Normas and from time to time with 160-grain RWS---not better, not worse, just different. Have yet to use either calibre when the critter didn't go down to the shot...he says confidently whilst knocking frantically on wood...

Too many folks make too much do over a few thousandths of an inch in bore diameter, a few fps difference on the charts, and whatever new miracle bullet is currently touted most succesfully. As long as the caliber is reasonable for the game, the bullet consistent in performance and placed well, the critter isn't likely to feel a difference.

Still, there's a charm associated with some of the classic rounds that I, at least, find notably lacking in the latest short and fat rimless wonder or the currently most popular big bore blaster designed for the current generation of presumably armor plated game.

Cheers all...
